On October 8, 2026, Google Cloud announced the Gemini agent for small and midsize businesses, which connects to tools like Asana, Docusign, Dropbox, Salesforce, Shopify, Slack, and Wix. It is in early access with SMB customers now. On October 20, the Gemini app added a business landing page and connections to Google Business Profile, Ads, Workspace, Canva, Zoho, and Xero.
This article explains what the Gemini agent offers and how to decide if it fits your business.
What does the Gemini agent do?
According to the Google Cloud blog, Gemini is designed as a “single, universal agent for work.” It can answer questions, handle knowledge work, create images and media, and write and run code from a single prompt. Google says you can delegate an outcome and come back to finished work.
The agent connects to popular SMB tools including Asana, Box, Clay, Docusign, Dropbox, GitHub, LegalZoom, Notion, Salesforce, Shopify, Slack, and Wix. It uses context from these tools, your business data, and your work history.
Google highlights several features:
Model choice. The agent runs each job on the model that fits best. Google says it orchestrates across its own Gemini models and third-party models, with other models coming. This is meant to raise accuracy on difficult work and lower cost on simple tasks.
Accessible everywhere. The agent works across web, mobile, desktop, and applications like Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, and Slack. Because it runs in the cloud, it keeps working when you step away.
Spend caps. Google has implemented cost controls including project-level spend caps in the Cloud Billing Console.
What did the October 20 update add?
The Gemini app now has a dedicated business landing page for small business owners. From this central hub, owners can build their brand, analyze finances, and understand customer insights.
The update added connections to Google Business Profile, Google Ads, and Google Workspace, plus third-party apps including Adobe, Canva, Dropbox, Shopify, Wix, Zoho, and Xero.
New features include the ability to define your brand style by uploading your website, brand kit, fonts, or color palettes. Gemini retains this style and can generate on-brand visuals without repeatedly uploading guidelines.
Gemini can also turn messy spreadsheets, receipts, and purchase records into financial graphics and interactive models.
What this means for your business
Connecting many apps is easy. Deciding which process to hand over is the hard part.
A salon might start with rebooking reminders for missed appointments. A distributor might use it for inventory questions that currently require digging through spreadsheets. A nonprofit might automate donor thank-you notes that follow a consistent format.
The pattern is the same regardless of industry: pick work that is repetitive, follows predictable rules, and does not require deep judgment.
How to pick a first workflow
-
High volume. Choose work that happens frequently enough to justify the setup time. A task you do once a month is probably not the right starting point.
-
Low risk. Start with internal workflows or informational tasks before moving to customer-facing actions. Reviewing data is lower risk than sending emails.
-
Clear success measure. Know how you will judge whether it is working. Time saved, tasks completed, or errors reduced are better than vague impressions.
-
Human approval on anything outbound. Even after you trust the agent’s output, keep a human in the loop for messages that go to customers, partners, or the public.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need Google Workspace to use it?
The Gemini agent works with Google Workspace but also connects to Microsoft 365, Slack, and many other tools. You do not need to be exclusively in the Google ecosystem.
Can it work alongside the tools I already use?
Yes. The agent is designed to connect to existing business software rather than replace it. The question is whether your specific tools have available integrations. Check the current list of connected apps for your setup.
Is it available now?
The Gemini agent is in early access with SMB customers. Google announced the business landing page and new connected apps on October 20 and said they would roll out globally to all Gemini app users in the coming days.
